had brother in law who is going to oz for a year in couple of weeks and we were bored so decided look at ebay australia for beetles and bays, we found this!
what do you think, is it an earlybay?
looks it to me apart from front panel and reg date.
sorry do not know how to put a link in but if anyone does please feel free to do so.

It's early as in half moon vents, removable rear panel, flat front arches, early rear lights & bumpers. (Filler flap?)

Late as in listed as a 1974, has late front panel, 5x112 wheels & flared rear arches.

It's hard to determine exact models from other countries.

I'd say it's a 71 with a new front panel (crash or rust maybe..) as for the reg date no idea....

Thats what I was thinking but the defformation has come across as well so looking like a big smash, wouldnt be supprised if the 71 was written off by insurance company and the 74 donor for the front end was ressurrected......

looked again today and seller added could be 71 model not 74. thinking of gettting brother in law (he is a trained mechanic) to look for parts etc to send back but depends on price and shipping etc, anyone got any knowledge of this sort of thing? as i am fairly new to vws what sort of kit is thin on the ground, not intending to make a mint, just to cover costs and make enough for a few beers!

If it had a deformation panel the early bumper wouldn't fit.

When you buy a new front panel you get that lip at the bottom, they probably just didn't bother cutting it off (seeing as they didn't bother modding the panel for the correct indicators)

But yeah I'd say its had a whack. Shame we can't see the cab floor nearer the front as we'd be able to see if its been bent up in the crash.

The cab floors look pretty grotty for a aussie van as well. I wouldn't buy it without having a good look at all the panel gaps too, but from those photos it doesn't look like its had a major smash. You have to remember that there is bugger all strength in those front panels.
