B prefix is for 1600 type 2 engine fitted from 8/67 to 7/70.
You will have to look at the inlet manifold though because it may have been uprated to a twin port.
The X at the end was used to denote a standard VW factory exchange unit.

B code is a 1600 Single port dual relief case (well my B coded engine is)
