Fitting Porsche seats

I've got them in a split bus, but the bloke who welded the brackets in made a crap job of them. He tacked a couple of strips of steel across the tops of the old brackets and drilled / tapped holes in the tops.. in the wrong places..

To do it properly you would have to remove the old brackets IMHO, but once there out the new brackets needn't be anything trick. The pork seats should still have the sliders attached so the new brackets just need to be 4 flat bosses (on in each corner) with tapped holes in the top. I'll be making my own soon...

had them in my old westy

bolted some box steel in , then fitted seats to steel

Did you remove the original seat runners or fit the new runners next to them?

I fitted some old Jag seats into our bus in a similar fashion to slammedresto. Jut got some box section steel and welded a square subframe the width of the two runners. The seat is supported and secure and you can bolt the subframe into the van with the cross sections. I managed to space it so that I could leave the original seat supports and runners intact so that I wasn't butchering the van as I think that the best way to proceed is always to leave yourself the option of going back if you want to later.

Looking at slammedresto's pic you can see the original seat mounts still intact at the rear so I'm guessing that the spacing on porsche seats must be such that you can get away without having to go in with the angle grinder.

I found that my Porsche (911,944) seats just fit the top of the wheel arch - but the original VW seat runners were already missing so I guess that makes it easier.
I've decided that I'm going to tub my front arches now anyway so I'll make up some strengthening plates for the underside to keep things tidy!

Hello there, long time no speak. How are you and the van?

I'm well thanks, been working loads and keeping Joy's bug up together so haven't been on as much as I'd like (been lurking from time to time though! ) - also been expanding my tool collection (metal cutting gear etc) ready for a big push on the van when time allows.

There's certainly been some impressive new rides on the forum - some great work going on out there! Nice to see so many new members about too, although I guess most aren't exactly new anymore!!!

;)
