For Sale: 1968 RHD Camper

After much deliberation, unfortunately we have decided to put our much loved camper up for sale due to a recent house move :( . We have owned the bus since August 2012 and done lots of work to get it to the reliable and mechanically sound shape it is in today! We will be very sad to see her go but hope it makes the next owner as happy as it did us.

The bus is ’68 RHD, originally a Danbury, but converted to a full length sunroof by the previous owner which we fell in love with. The interior is all in exceptional condition. The van is stored in a garage all year round and never driven during winter months.

The sale also includes a Khyam Driveaway XC awning (http://www.khyam.co.uk/detail.asp?p=783" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and Machine7 2 bow roof rack (http://www.machine7.com/product.php?xProd=10878" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).

Overall the bus is in great condition, especially given the fact that it is a ‘68 RHD!! Mechanically, we have done lots of work on her and she has passed the last 3 MOTs hassle free, with no advisories in 2015 and 2016. The bus is very solid underneath and the bodywork is in good condition for the most part, with a few usual signs of the age coming through in places, but I will try to be as honest as I can in the ad. The van has just passed its MOT (21/03/16) with no advisories (and is of course tax free ☺).

Since we have owned the van we have done the following work:

- New Laurie Petit 1600 T/P engine (only covered approximately 2000 miles)
- Brand new Vintage Speed sports exhaust system (only covered approximately 2000 miles) (http://www.vintagespeed.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=garden_flypage.tpl&product_id=128&category_id=27&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=119" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
- New complete gearbox from Just Kampers (only covered approximately 150 miles) (http://www.justkampers.com/vw-t2-bay-window-parts/t2-bay-gearbox-cv-joints/reconditioned-gearboxes-rebuild-parts/002-300-043-dx-tes-t2-gearbox-1600cc.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
- Brand new clutch
- Brand new Mad Matz carpets throughout (Harvest Herringbone finish)
- Fitted a new front beam with Creative Engineering adjusters
- Fitted split screen steel wheels and stainless steel caps

Exterior

- Full length Paris Beetle ragtop (in great condition and fully watertight)
- The bus is mildly lowered all around (on Creative Engineering adjustable beam at the front and spline at the back so can be lowered more or raised back to stock)
- Opening quarters all in good working condition
- Underneath has all the original paint and has been undersealed – no rot
- Both bumpers in good condition
- Newly fitted Custom & Commercial German Quality front door seals. All other seals in good condition
- Gutters all straight and in great condition

Interior

- Full width Rock and Roll bed
- Retro Sound Model One B/C stereo system (with IPod/USB dock in glovebox and remote control)
- Leisure battery set up with 240v inverter installed
- Two 75 watt Rip Speed speakers in back
- Three phone charging points in the back (hooked up to the leisure battery)
- Full interior re-trim by Dubholstery
- New Mad Matz carpets throughout
- New curtains
- New Bamboo parcel shelf
- LED lighting hidden above the curtain rail
- Foldaway buddy seat in the back

The good points

The van has had an almost complete mechanical overhaul with no expense spared. The new engine, gearbox, clutch and exhaust system have all covered less than 2000 miles and have been regularly serviced and well maintained.

The interior is in excellent condition and has been well cared for, still looking like new.

The bodywork is in good shape and requires no work in its current condition, just jump in and enjoy.

The sale also includes a Khyam Driveaway XC awning (http://www.khyam.co.uk/detail.asp?p=783" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and Machine 7 2 bow roof rack (http://www.machine7.com/product.php?xProd=10878" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). The van will also come with many years worth of receipts and MOT certificates dating back to 1994.

The bad points

Although the van has been well looked after there are some signs of age beginning to show, but nothing you wouldn’t expect on a 48 year old bus. There is a slight knock on the front bottom panel, a small rust patch on the driver’s side wheel arch (this is structurally solid, but aesthetically would benefit from treatment, see pics) Also, the front door seals are new and still bedding in, so the doors don’t currently sit as flush as they did!

Overall this is a great bus in a great condition that I hope will make its next owners as happy as it made us! Given its condition, the van can be enjoyed as it currently is with no worries about any impending work! Given that not many ’68 RHDs are still around, I hope the new owners will continue to cherish it and ensure it is built to last another 48 years in the UK.

The van is located in Nottingham and will be available for viewings most evening and weekends. Please call Rob on 07790845760 if you have any questions or would like to arrange a viewing.

The price is £15,750
