Hi,

So, here you go - the proverbial hens-teeth/rocking horse-poo. An 091 2L 6-rib CP gearbox.

Has been in my garage for nearly four years and it's not leaked. Selector shaft moves back & forth. Both drive shafts turn freely in either direction.

Serious offers please (when was the last time one of these was for sale?). Also, due to the weight it's collection only.

Thank you,

Mike

Dude you need to put a price on the box or the mods will get you!

I'll give you 200 for the box

Sorry, this is no longer for sale - a good friend gave me a proper telling off and sorted my head out!

Apologies to everybody who might've been interested

MODS: Please close/lock this thread.

Thank you.

Hi - sorry to jump in on a thread you have requested to be locked. :msn4:

Pardon my ignorance but what is special about the 091 2L 6-rib CP gearbox?

Why are they rare and what improvement do they offer over a normal 4 speed as fitted to my stock 1600SP

Sorry for all the questions but just trying to keep myself informed about whats available for upgrades/rarity and so on.

Cheers

Strength and higher ratios.

As said... It's stronger and gives the bus longer legs. When matched up to a suitable engine it'll drop the revs and increase cruising speed - not massively, but enough to be comfortable - and keep you out of the 'lorry lane'.

After chatting to Pete @ Cog box a few weeks ago the difference between a standard 1600 box and a rebuilt one with inners as per freeway flyer, it will drop engine revs by around 900rpm @ 60mph or at the same revs (@60mph) on previous ratio you travel 12mph faster..I'd assume this type box would do the same. They are getting very rare although a little over engineered for run of the mill motors. Saying that I'd still be interested if it came available, if the price was right... ;-)

Stu,
All comments are spot on. My engine builder recomends one, they reduce the revs by quite a bit, stops the engine screaching and use less fuel as a result. You can get a new recon one from Rancho:

I think it's the green one.

I'm going to get one as soon as the piggy bank is brifful. :D

Neither did he - in an earlier post he was offered the same gearbox for £250 - might be trying to squeeze a slight profit!

Thanks for all the info and explanations fellas - feel enlightened now and have added another item to my wish list, freeway flyer gearbox! Damn you

No good on a stock motor though, final drive ratio is too high.

Lies, they work fine with a stock motor, I have fitted and driven vans with 091 boxes and stock 1600tp motors with no issues
