I have a late bay tank and sender fitted to my 71 bus and have finally got round to fitting a late bay fuel gauge and backing plate in an effort to get a needle that doesn't wave about like a drowning man's arms. However, gauge reads full and only have about 25 litres in the tank. I have tried another late gauge and two early ones and all read full ( I have not mounted these in backing plate when testing to eliminate any earthing issues with dash pod). Ohms reading on multi-meter reads 32 when connected to brown wire that goes to the sender - 12 volts from black wire (the one that splits into three with other two going to tabs next to dashlight bulbs) Any ideas where I am going wrong please ? Also anyone know if the Hayburner fuel sender hatch will fit a 71 as they list it as a late bay item?
