I'm about to renew fuel hose and would like to know of a decent make and where to buy from (uk).
Seen enough horror pictures of fire caused by poor quality fuel hoses and don't fancy taking any risks!
Suggestions would be great . Many thanks Rib

Rather worryingly, I fitted some of the best stuff that machine7 offer around two years ago. Whilst I was preparing the van to drop the engine recently, I noticed some large cracks in the hose. Unusually though, the cracks were all externally, and weren’t on areas where the hose was bent. I’ve checked the inside, and this all appears to be split-free.

No idea what has caused this, but I do worry that a lot of R7 / R9 hose that is available from the major suppliers isn’t genuine stuff. Will be buying replacement lengths from advanced fluid solutions when it comes to refitting.

Ok that is a bit worrying, was advanced fluid solitons recommended to you? Thanks for reply

I got mine from here
https://www.advancedfluidsolutions.co.uk, you need bio ethanol fuel line its relatively expensive to the other stuff but I have had mine with no problems. But before most runs I always give it a once over for hardening and cracks. Give them a call they are very helpful.

They specialise in hoses for lots of fluid applications. I trust them to supply decent quality stuff, unlike the VW retailers, who we all know stock all kinds of qualities of parts.

That Gates hose looks good and is half the price of Advanced water Bio fuel hose which is interesting I wonder how they compare?
Per metre Gates barricade £7.20
Advanced £13.49

Hi sparkywig what size did you order, I can't seem to find 5.5mm if that's the size we are supposed to have in gates, but advanced fluid solutions list that size. Thanks

Ditto here. Fitted mine 2 years ago now, no problems so far. Changed from the standard R9 which i had to change every year.

Hi guys, R9 hose is for fuel injection really and I found the OD to be too big for my mechanical fuel pump connections. To meet the SAE J30 R9 spec it is reinforced for FI pressures usually meaning the acceptable bend radius is bigger, making it harder to route.
I used a combination of 6mm stainless steel pipe and Cohline 5.6mm ID 100% biofuel hose from ASF a few years ago and it's still fine now. The Cohline hose is for low pressure use so is fine for VW gravity fed systems and has a fairly tight bend radius. That said, I'll probably change it soon anyway as I don't like to wait for leaks or cracks.
Barricade had just come out then and was not readily available. I'd be interested to know the ID and OD of the barricade hose that some of you guys have used, also what fuel pump/carb you have fitted.
Don't forget, whatever hose you fit it won't last forever. The hose will deteriorate from extremes of heat, cold, fumes, contact with chemicals and mechanical abrasion. Check it regularly and replace as a matter of course at what you think are reasonable intervals.
