Anyone got a picture of where the fuel hose enters the engine bay? Mine comes through between the tinware and seal at the minute which is obviously bad so I want to get it sorted properly.

Cheers!

There's a hole with a rubber grommet in the engine bulkhead on the left above the chassis rail. :)

As you look at the engine from the rear, there is a little hole in the rear tin over the gearbox where it should come through on the left side.

two different places then :) On the image that Sparkywig posted I have the wires for the reversing light coming through. Does it differ between US and UK vans? Going to have a quick look at the tin now, should it be a metal pipe that passes through rather than hose?

There's a metal section of pipe fitted where it comes through the bulkhead.
If the fuel pipe comes through the tin over the gearbox, doesn't this mean you have to disconnect it or feed it through when you drop/replace the engine. :?:

Could be a pain feeding it through every time but hopefully the engine wont be coming out too often :) I'll be feeding it through the tinware then, thanks for the help!

I too did'nt like the way the fuel hose was routed through the tin, so I drilled a 20mm hole in the panel that is at the left side of the rear tin put a grommet in and run the full length of pipe from the tank straight to the fuel pump.

Oh and the fuel filter is'nt in the engine bay anymore its just above the gearbox now.

Isnt the idea that the fuel hose goes through tinwear that forms part of the engine 'unit', therefore minimising the potential for the hose or pipe to chafe?
By using surrounding metal, or worse going over the tinwear, the risk of damaging the pipe is increased. Using the solid pipe through the tinwear, and then providing the flex in the pipe to the filter/tank means that hose damage is minimised, therfore making fire risk as small as poss.

:)

what Clem said - VW know what they're doing. The solid fuel line goes through the grommet in the rear tin, then the flexible pipe joins it the other side.make sure the rubber grommet is in place as the solid fuel line passes through the rear tin. Also, disconnecting the rubber pipe for an engine drop is no hardship, if anything its a reminder to replace it while you're there!
