Ive got to replace the heater tube inbetween the front and rear cross member (1971 t2) as its fallen apart! it was wrapped with a strange heat wrapping which I presume is the original. Im now going to put the new one in and was wondering what to wrap it with? would it be a problem to wrap it in glass fibre to keep the heat in and give it some protection from the elements? any input would be appreciated

cheers Matt

then you need to wrap the glass with somthing water proof.

Are you sure  , what about glassfibre boats?:

If he uses glassfibre and resin it would be waterproof

Id use glassfibre and resin, would that give it insulation and water proof?? What alternatives are there??

it would make it waterproof but not so sure about insulating it, unless you do both of the above loft insulation then glassfibre and resin.

I have heard others have used foil backed bubble wrap to insulate

why not get some wide diameter pipe insulation? Some are used externally. Only problem is you can't probably buy soething in the small quantity you need. Know any mechanical fitters/pipe fitters/plumbers??

The pipe insulation is a good idea, as for quantity, tell them you're doing a large installation project on some distrist heating mains (buried in trenching) & ask if you can get a reasonable sized sample.
You'll be suprised how often it works.. ;)
