Headlamp help

Evening all, just been out in the van and had a bit of a scare!, driving along fine with side lights on then went to put main headlights on and nothing changed, just the same side lights on, and main beam doesn't work, no blue light either! Turned the van off and on and still the same. The side lights even sometimes come on one first then the other but no main lights! Had to crawl home with only sidelights! Can anyone shed some light on the matter?

Can you check you have output from the main switch terminals, then the stalk, then the relay.

Checked the fuses, all good, weird thing is started the van and now the headlights all work? Any explanations?

Could of been a poor connection across the fuse, carry spares just in case of a failure..

could be a dodgy connection on the fuse box or dash switch, or a dodgy relay. You just have to go through things one at a time.

As already said. The fuses can sometimes get light corrosion which means they don't make electrical contact. Just moving or disturbing them can reconnect them.

Unless the contacts are properly cleaned and then protected with Vasline or similar, the problem might recur.

First job Saturday! Clean all fuse ends and Vaseline all contacts!
