Hi guys, I recently contacted Ricky Evans Motor Sport about replacing my dark blue tinted windscreen with a tinted, HEATED version and they can do it. But, there is a catch, read on.

They can do these screens but only if they get a minimum order of at least 10! Clearly I don't have the wedge to buy 10 units, so, is anyone else interested in joining me? The screens cost £165 + VAT, which works out at £198 each, which is the same cost as a normal heated screen, I think (but not sure) postage will be extra. They run at 35 Amps when at there warmest, so if you don't have an alternator now is the time to get one.

Come on, not many buses out there with these, you know you want to waste even more money on some bling! (It's also quite practical too!)

OK to keep things simple I'm gonna start a list here of people interested/ definite repsonses so I can keep tabs on who is in etc.

THE LIST

1. buss69 - PAID IN FULL
2. Tiger1 - Deposit on the way
3. Haveacamper - Yes
4. Naskeet - Maybe
5.

i'd be interested with heated tinted screen. any pics of a representative one so i know what to expect from the "blue" colour?

any gaurentees in the unlikely outcome of it not fitting well/leaking etc. warrenty etc.

As far as not fitting well, at £200 I'd hope it would be perfect. I wonder if anyone else has on the forum has had any experience of these heated windows.

I'll stick a picture of my current screen up on here as this is what I'd like replicated. Are you defo good to go on this or do you want to hold back until we get a better idea of spec?

just looked on JustKampers and it looks like they do one for £188 but I dont think its tinted.

i'll hold out for the pics of the windscreen to see what the different between tinted and untinted is.

Dude got some pics of my bus with tinted window to give you an idea of what it is like. The JK window is not tinted and VW Heritage do a tinted top screen for £212 and it's not heated, so the price I have been quoted is pretty good.

Hey mate,

First things first, that's a vey nice bus!

I'm not too sure what I think of the blue band at the top. My bus is going to be either neptune or dove bue but not sure what I think of the band. I presume the new screen would come with the band???

Thanks dude, if you simply want just a heated screen (ie no band), you can get one for the same price without having to go through all of this, I think the company holds them in stock. If, however you want the band as far as this thread is concerned it's gonna be blue (although the idea of a red one sounds rather cool, never seen one of those. Damn must stick to the plan). Hope that helps.

Does the quoted price of £165•00 + VAT @ 20% (i.e. £198•00), from Ricky Evans Motor Sport, include delivery & insurance cover, to our individual UK delivery addresses?

The ordinary laminated front windscreen of my 1974 Triumph Toledo, has a blue-tinted shade band at the top, which I have found to be quite useful, with regard to reducing glare, from the low winter sun. As I have been contemplating the retro-fitment of an electrically-heated front windscreen, to my 1972/73 VW Type 2 Westfalia Continental campervan, I might take advantage of this offer.

One of my local acquaintances, is an independent windscreen fitting contractor, who yesterday informed me, that he has direct access to Pilkington Glass and their various subsidiary companies, manufacturing automotive windscreens. He said that he would try to find out about the specifications, availability & prices, of the various electrically-heated front windscreens for VW Transporters, so I think I shall wait a few days or weeks, to see what he finds out, before committing myself.

The paintwork around my original factory-fitted, zone-toughened front windscreen, needs modest refurbishment, owing to a long history of stone-chipping. Hence, it would preferable to first remove the existing windscreen, to chase all the thin filaments of rust (akin to fungal mycelia), which I suspect have penetrated beneath the paintwork, underlying the windscreen's rubber seal. I shall not be doing this for sometime, but it would be advantageous, to have the preferred variety of replacement laminated front windscreen, ready & waiting, for when I finally get around to it.

It is also preferable, to wait until after I replace the original factory-fitted, zone-toughened front windscreen, before retro-fitting the rain sensor, associated with my OEDES Rain Tracker RT-50, accessory windscreen-wiper speed controller, that will automatically switch on the wipers and vary the sweep frequency, according to the rate of precipitation (i.e. road-spray, rain, snow, sleet, mist or fog).

http://www.raintracker.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This would be particularly appropriate for 1968~72 VW Type 2s, with dashboard-mounted windscreen wiper & washer switch (difficult to find quickly in the dark, after a large lorry has just swamped the windscreen, with dirty road-spray!), which have no flick-wipe or intermittent wiper facility.

No idea what power is, i'll get on it

Still waiting for confirmation, but the screen that VW Heritage sells is 38Amps.

OK people, just got word, a front tinted, heated screen from REM uses 35 Amps when at it's warmest. Drawing that sort of current if you don't have an alternator now would be the time to get one. The original Dynamo generated something like 38 Amps (please correct me if I'm wrong), most good after market alternators run with at least 75Amps so this would be just enough. Mine runs at 85 Amps, although I'm not sure who the make is. Hope this helps.

I'm getting the blue tint for the same reason (Funny I also had a tinted screen for my first car a Triumph Dolomite 1500HL), it really helps in the winter and summer evenings when the sun is low. It also looks pretty cool.

As far as delivery and Insurance goes I'm not sure, I'll find out.

About five years ago, I came across one windscreen wholesaler, whom I think was Uroglas, who also sold direct to individual members of the public. As far as I can recall, an electrically-heated front windscreen, for the 1968~79 VW Type 2, cost just £150 in total, including 17½% VAT, carriage & insurance.

Uroglas, 2 Buntsford Park, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, B60 3DX, England.

Thanks for the extra info, but if you read the top of this thread you'll see that Ricky Evans is who I've already contacted for these screens. I have also emailed Uroglas for a quote so thanks for the info on that one, more info when I get it.
