Hi, I registered my van on here a couple of weeks back now and have finally sorted out some pictures. It's a Jan 68 Devon caravette which I've had about three years. When I bought it, it looked lovely but had a very leaky non original pop-top. I've discovered loads of hidden nasties since then mainly as a result of water pouring in over the years including floors disguised with filler and gaffer taped patches of metal. After much welding and bodywork and having just restored the interior it has gradually become a very sound van no thanks to the unscrupulous `VW specialists´ I bought it from in Essex, who took the time to do a beautiful paint job over a badly bodged but well disguised body. Since then I've had a roof section welded in and a new headliner to replace the pop-top after much deliberation over whether I really wanted a sun roof or not. I'm pleased I didn't in the end and am very pleased with the clean lines of the original tin top.
Anyway, I love it now despite all the money it's swallowed up.

Hi Jeremy,
Welcome to the forum!
Your van looks absolutely fantastic - it's a brave move to go back to tintop but it has paid off for you and looks brilliant. Your interior looks nice and original too - I'm very jealous :D

;)

Luckily the interior survived all the water leaks in good nick unlike a lot of Devons I've seen where the oak ply has dissolved like weetabix.

Yes, it's my daily driver with a miraculously low 52000 miles, never welded and all original rust free paint/bodywork. An old boy owned it from new in 71 and put it away in his garage fully waxoiled in 76. A local enthusiast bought it from him in January this year after it was stored away for 31 years but lost the storage space for his cars and put it up for sale on the Samba. Somehow I managed to get to the front of the queue and buy it. I usually miss out on these type of lucky `barn find´purchases.

That looks beautifull !!
Got to love the Devon interior, very classy 8)
