Hi Yall
Last weekend started the engine in the bus for the first time (RHD 69 earlybay), first thing i noticed was when i connected the battery (with the ignition off) is a click from the solenoid on the carb "i thought strange" turned the ignition on, battery and oil light on, start the engine runs sweet, come to turn the ignition off engine keeps running even with the key removed, the bus has a new wiring loom so checked the wires from the switch, red to light switch, red&black to starter motor, black earth, all ok, there is a gray wire but was told it was for the parking light used on later buses so not conected, had to pull a wire from the coil to stop the engine
new Ignition Starter Switch fitted

anyone any ideas

Thanks Vinvan

If the timing is way out I think that this can happen, I'm still learning so I'd wait for someone else to agree

When you connected the battery, your ignition went live ,this should not happen till you turn ignition on, so wiring fault or switch.

thats what i thought, but has anyone any ideas where the wiring can go wrong, the switch is new

You have a wire that goes from your switch to your coil, remove from switch ,check switch is not live when off with multi metre, or torch and wire trick.

according to the wiring diagram i have three wires from the switch, red which goes to the light switch, red & black which goes to the starter motor, black which goes to the fuse box, and gray which is not connected (parking light)
don't have a wire that goes directly to the coil ????????

This is the coil setup: Black wire & Red wire from the loom to the positive side, then black wire from the positive to the carb solenoid and then on to the choke
gray wire from the negative side to the distributor
removed the gray wire to stop the engine

The plus side of the coil is where the power comes from, for your dizzy, your choke ,your petrol solenoid
