I spoke to the remanufacturer and they have kept no records of the build, so it'll be measuring time when I get there. He suggested an oil issue - I guess I'll see soon enough.

I am surprised to see that when it was painted green, they didn't mask off the innards or the mating surfaces of the various seals - so I have a lot of flakes of paint floating around - that can't be good....

Oh, and the other surprise is that the cam followers are quite a way offset from the pushrod tube holes - is that normal?

Yes the offset is normal - when you split the case you will see why its like that :)

The paint you describe sounds bad news. Your right- flakes of paint inside the engine can block oil galleries the same way as other stuff like excess sealant.

These things can be a bit of a time bomb in that it can take a long time before the paint or sealant detaches.
