Wow, what a difference, just been down to Cornwall and back and the old bugger never paused for breathe. More importantly I never got the services with my fingers crossed that the Solenoid would kick in. What a difference and only cost me £4!

yes and if it was me I would fit one to the ign feed to coil as well to take load of ign switch and stop volt drop.not that I have done it to mine  (yet) ;)

Apologies if this has been asked to death but does this involve as I thought it was only my bus that was a **** to start when hot

This Hot Start issue - Is it where your bus won't start up again after a short journey?

Think I had this for the first time today. I turned the key, pumped the pedal but nothing. The ignition sounded felt like normal, but the pedal was just flat. I gave it about an hour and then managed to start it up as normal no problem.

I followed the link above to the latebay forum, but after reading the posts I'm not a 100% about what the underlying cause is? From the thread it sounds like it's theondition of the wiring to the solenoid/starter motor???

So what actually causes this and is this relay a temporary fix?

Cheers!

my theory is it stops volt drop at coil = bigger spark.

Yep, I read the bit about someone saying that when they had the hot start issue, they connected their coil up to a leisure battery to get more "umph".

Forgive my ignorance, but why does this only happen the 2nd time you startup and not the first?

Guys I have a hot start issue, however it's slightly different.

Example.

I stop at the petrol station, fill up with fuel, pay, get back in the bus and try to start. It's a real struggle to fire, but it does.

However, the engine then will not rev at all for at least 2 minutes; foot hard down on accelerator pedal, but the engine just struggles to stay alive. After a couple of minutes it seems to finally "wake up" and the revs rise normally, and I can drive off.

The engine has had new pistons, barrels, heads, carburettor, 009 distributor, fuel pump, plugs, leads, and it has been set up excellently on a rolling road. It drives mint, apart from this issue!

Any ideas?

As I said, I don't think it is a problem with the coil voltage because it will fire, it just won't rev for a while. Having said that, I have a new coil (bosch blue) to fit tomorrow as a process of elimination!

I know you mentioned you've got a new fuel pump but I'm sure there's instances where an internal part of the pump "expands" due to heat and stops working (i can't remember where I saw the video for this - think it was either the bug me dvd or that lad from new york who has loads of video on youtube).

Feel free to correct me though!

Mine has same problem as yours - first time it happened pushing the pedal did nothing. It was like there was no cable attached. Waited 15mins then it started working again. Now whenever I have to fill up I do it at a supermarket petrol station, so I can tell the bods in the little petrol shop that the bus has just overheated and that I'll be back after doing my shop in the supermarket. They've always been okay with it!

you may have seen that I am building relay boards to help with this hot start issue plus extras like spare fuses and lecky fuel pump relay,£55 plus p&p.
