As above how do you remove the cam gear from the crank, i need to replace the bearing.
Also whats the easiest way to re-fit the cam gear?

The best way to remove is to use the proper gear puller..............to replace its a case of warming up the gear (blowtorch, cooker)and slipping it back on

I heat them up using a blow torch and use a 3 leg puller with a large jubilee clip to hold the legs together - its a long job and takes longer than I'd like.....

didn't realise you could get a tool...

[ps haven't forgot your payment pm - logged myself out and awaiting password release... ]

Yeah, there's a proper tool for that, makes the job sooooo much easier. And make sure the kitchen proud one is out before oven baking the gear at gas mark 6 to refit it or you feel like one when you get an earful

Simon,,

Try a local engineering shop. They will probably have a puller that would work and may only charge beer money. :) just a thought.

I take them off with a big puller I found in a skip years ago. Easiest way to put them on is to put crank in freezer (in strong bag!) and heat gear in gearbox oil on electric cooker when the management is out and with all doors open  I use thick welding gloves to hold gear and very quickly slide it on the cold crank.

Rather than heat-up with engine oil ( at bitsmelly which annoys the mem-saab), I used normal
cooking oil (Spry crisp and dry, you know the sort of thing..). For removal I use a cheap-ish
Draper 3 leg puller that I filed down the 'feet' of to fit behind the gear.

Well i cut the bearing off as i was replacing it anyway and used a 3 leg bearing puller.
To refit it i boiled the kettle dropped the gear into the hot water, had a cup of tea, and then dropped the gear into place, it needed a little help from a hammer and a punch but nothing major.
