Hi all

Just fitted a new stalk courtesy of ebay via Latvia

came with 8 wires attached but only needed 5 :-/

Now though, my nearside rear brake light is flashing instead of the indicator - any ideas??

I have a 1971 Dormabile

Sounds like you have a wire crossed or shorting out.

Did you workout what the other 3 wires are for? I have also recently bought an indicator switch that also has the extra wires where the diagram suggests only 5 are used.

check you don't have a blown indicator bulb or bad connection at a lamp as this can cause the brake light to flash instead. It might just be coincidence that its happened now while you are working on the stalk or there may have been a surge at some point that has blown a bulb. I still regularly see this on fairly modern cars. Out of interest, what happens when you put the hazards on?
cheers

on the switch wiring, i would find out what the other wires are for as you may have to join some and connect them to the same terminal to make the whole thing work. If you know what year the switch was originally for then the wiring diagrams are free on "the samba" and you should be able to work out from there.
Be sure to post your findings to help others in future, the genuine switches are getting thin on the ground now. I paid £130 last year for one second hand.
