LOOKING TO LOWER MY BAY OVER THE WINTER AS IT CURRENTLY SITS IN THE CLOUDS
IT SITS NOSE HIGH AT THE MOMENT SO DON'T KNOW WHETHER 2 JUST DROP THE FRONT TO SIT LEVEL OR DROP IT ALL ROUND ??
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE HELPFUL AND A BALL PARK FIGURE OF COSTS AS CREDIT CRUNCH (WEDDING, BEETLE RESTO) HITS NEWCASTLE :p

Im in the same boat mate .. with the winter lowering plan too!

.. I was gonna drop the front end slightly with adjusters, and give it a little rake .. then if i don't like it drop the rear one outer spline as its a free job! ... just the adjusters to pay for then ... don't know which to buy yet though ..

Hi there. Can only offer limited advice/opinion as I went the K&L route with a stock width splitty beam, BUT, the adjusters I used were from Creative Engineering. Seem to be fine quality, do the job and the same price as anywhere else. Also, Dave Palmer has a good reputation, so I felt safe using his product. Hope that's of some help. Oh, he does narrowed beams as well, not sure about dropped spindles for ball joint front ends though. See the ad in magazines.

This is such a huge topic.....and there is not one simple answer.

The same as Pete I have gone down the King and Link pin route but I used a narrowed beam.

Once you move away from stock suspension you open yourself up to the possibility of problems......I do not know of any route which has not caused some sort of controversy.

My advice would be to look through the Gallery, speak to as many people as you can who have done it and pick a route you are happy with.

If I was doing it again i would like to see how a standard split screen beam and KnL dropped spindles would sit. I think a split beam is about 12mm narrower each side and sits an inch lower, wih dropped spindles and lower profile tyres this would give a 5"+ drop. At the rear I would fit Creative adjustable spring plates, I'm sure there are people out there who don't like this method but I think Creative have made life easier using these.

As for cost....???? My local VW guy can drop a bus for £200 with no parts to buy but remember....Ball joints were only meant to have so much movement. The way I did mine cost me £2000+ with the CSP brakes, but considering how low it is I feel it is safe and it drives really smoothly and according to my wife they are the most important things

Good luck and keep us posted.

Jon
