Lost my winter storage just after getting my 69 Westy and I don't want to leave it on the side of the road. I have a lock up garage I rent that is empty at the moment and was wondering what would be the quickest cheapest way I could lower the thing by 6 inches so it may fit in and can keep it. At the moment its all standard set up with commercial tyres

Cheers

Would it fit with the air let out of the tyres and put onto a car wheel dolly?
Might be cheaper than a lowering session

That is one way but I want to be able to keep using a be able to drive it home so I can work on it in the good weather if we get any

In addition to lowering the van, is there any way you can gain height at the garage?
I fitted some timber barn doors to mine, gained me about 3" compared to the up'n'over
Stock height rolled straight in

I rent the garage, its in a block under some flats. Theres also a bit of slope going in to the garage so the doors wouldn't open

Unfortunately theres no cheap fix mate. 6 inches is lot of drop tbh.... On the rear you could drop a couple of splines and maybe go to 70 profile tyres on a 14" rim...any less and your gearings not good, or alternatively fit adjustable spring plates. The front however, for that much drop you really need to be thinking about narrowing the beam. Fitting dropped spindles and lower profile tyres will get it down but i'd be suprised if you didn't encounter tyres rubbing that low without the narrower beam. I rekon i've spent £1k on my stance and i've still to buy some decent shocks yet

6 inches wont be a cheap lowering job. If it a rental garage its also worth checking the length if its an up and over door, you may not get to shut the door even it the van will go in due to the way the door comes into the space.

To get that amount of drop and still be able to drive, you'll need what I did..........
4" narrowed beam, flipped spindles, 165-50-15 tyres up front, rear adjustable spring plates, 195-65-15 tyres and for the finale air shocks all round with 2 way control, single compressor tankless system (upgradable to a tank if you want) . Will not be cheap buy looks awesome.

Do what I did, find yourself another garage to rent, the bus is best left at stock height anyway

Garages round here are like gold dust, why I haven't given this one up. Had a measure up today and and I will have to lower about 5 to 6ins. Other problem is the bus is running a 1776cc with a deep sump so that may have to go. I could just leave it where it is with a cover over it I suppose
