i'm pretty sure that i'm going to buy a van currently being rebuilt by someone i know. its down to bare shell at the moment, pretty solid but one or two little bits being sorted. painted soon. no interior yet but i'm hoping to get hold of a late westfalia interior ... either complete (although i'm aware these are hard to come by) or bit by bit.

at this stage though, are there any things that might be considered "must do's" .... or at least highly desirable to do now so that i don't waste time and money later getting them done. the sort of things perhaps that a lot of peole end up doing/changing.

cheers.

Renew the fuel lines, breathers, neck, the lot.
Nothing worse than finally driving your newly restored van and then having to pull the engine again cause of a petrol smell.

yep wiring, if its anything like most that i see including mine it will be like spagetti junction!

Run extra wires in while its empty, gauges, stereo, split charing etc

That makes so much sense, run something like a 12 core x 1.0mm YY from the engine compartment to the dash and the same from under the back seat/ r'n'r bed to the dash. Plenty of options then. Damn, wish I had thought of that! Actually, one 6mm would be a good move as well to feed a secondary fuse box if you fit a leisure battery/ split charge system. Perhaps make that a 10mm, better safe than sorry.

thanks very much.

a couple i was thinking about already and some i will suggest.

a few ideas i had before the interior:
stereo/speakers/wires
heater
leisure battery and/or electric hook up

he is going to waxoil anyway.

the pictures are being taken by the bloke doing it. as yet its not actually mine, i have first refusal and will be deciding in a couple of weeks .... after a few more visits, leaning over his shoulder .... and asing him silly questions too.
