Two years back i got this sexy purple van for my birthday as a gift from my parents, this is the state it got on our driveway;
Since i was (and still am) going to school, progress was slow; but i'll get there... I started cleaning up the inside, as there was some previous welding done, which wasn't very well done, just some plates welded above the rust, so i cut it all out and welded it (in my own terms) properly myselve.
After a while i thought it was ready to be checked if it was roadlegal (oldtimer), but the first time we went there we apperantly missed some paperwork, so after two weeks or so, these were settled. But then the van wouldn't start to drive to the checkup...
There was rust in every tube from the gastank to the carbs, so we got the engine out (5 hour work, since the oilpipe sticks a bit further out than expected) and got the tank cleaned by a specialised firm. Meanwhile i am busy spraying all the tinware of the engine (a 1700 type4 by the way) in black, since some of them were getting rusty. I discovered that both the rearcorners had a new plate welded above the old one, so i got these off, and discovered again a lot of rust, i have cut it all out and i've now started welding these corners back in shape.
Plans are to first get everything welded, engine and gastank back in and then get it checked up so i can drive it on our belgian roads! Than some interiorwork, a nice paint, wood on the floor in the bank, a selfmade camperinterior, and a checkered carpet in the front with some nice seats!
Hope you like my purple van!
