Hi, my engine battery keeps losing its charge. I went to a couple of local dealers who supply and fit batteries, yet none could advise which battery to use. As it is a US import, and not listed on their systems. I was told I'd have to contact a main VW dealer, and sort the correct battery size and Ampage via them.

Has anyone got an idea as to which battery i would need?
My bus is a 1970 Westy, US import, 1600 Twin port.

I'm unable to gather any information from the battery that is currently installed.....and i cant get it out at the minute, as the connectors are too badly corroded to attempt a hassle free removal. i dont want to try and remove fully until i have a new battery, ready to replace it.

Any info and recommendations would be much appreciated.

I tried removing the battery, but the connector is so corroded from acid that i was unable to turn the spanner for fear of snapping the terminal off all together!!
The battery shows signs of leakage, and is generally making the engine bay look untidy, so a new one is in order.
Would a standard Golf 1.6 battery be suffice if i was to order one of them? I really couldn't see why not......but thought i'd ask the more mechanically minded amongst us here 1st :?
