Saw a very strange hybrid on my way back from work this evening. Unfortunately didn't have a camera so no pics but will see if it's still there tomorrow.
Anyway, it had late bay front but with a split middle section - outwards opening loading doors and 4 windows on each side, glass corner windows and split air intakes. Rear section was weird too as had rectangular latebay light cluster which seemed to be sunk in a little, non standard rear hatch- like a barndoor but not and a normal engine lid. Plus split/ earlybay style readbumpers. All in all quite odd. Anyone else seen anything like it? Not sure how old as had a private plate on.
like I said,was a bit weird!

I found a (slightly) better pic...

That one is Brazilian, but I'm sure somewhere else had a few specials done too - which were similar, but not the same..

When splitty production in Germany finnished in 1967, the tooling went to Brazil where they continued to be built 'til 1975. The hybrid 'bay/split' was then produced from that year until 1996, when prouction of the 'modern' bays as we know them was transfered from Mexico to Brazil, in order for the Mexican plant to gear up for production of the new watercooled Beetle. :D

Has anyone thought that the tool that makes the original front panel (low indicator) must be around somewhere???? would be worth a few quid to whoever owned it
