Right, whilst removing my tinwear and more precisely the carbs I may or may not have dropped in washer into the cylinder head.

Now, if after a greater inspection tomorrow in better light I still cant find the washer.

What the hell do I do???

Cheers
Nigel

I retried the end of a spark plug with an extendy magnetic tool on my sisters old KA, still standing up to abuse today by my dads mate so that must have done the trick!

Not quite the same but I lost the jet thing out of the carb into a cylinder on a beetle. Stripped the engine down and all I found was a few marks on the piston. I guess it got chewed up and spat out whilst it was running. I guess the washer was steel so probably a little harder wearing, might not be chewed up so easy

Fire it up and see what happens... (Joke)

Yep magnetic long pokey thing is probs your best bet. I've done this a couple of times, never found the offending article and never had a problem, I think there's some sort of nut and washer black hole down the back of my tinware.

Good luck.

I bought a torch from the local car parts shop with an extending bendy magnet built in to the lense!!
How clever is that?!!?.
You can lend it if you like?
Or just buy one, was only pennies!!

Cheers lee. Ive got a none torch (poor mans) bendy magnet but it would appear to be too bendy down there. Im getting nowhere!

A small screw fell off one of my kadrons and into the chamber - destroyed the head and piston in the space of 2 - 3 seconds max! Kept the piston as a nice paperweight.

In my opinion, these engines are so easy to remove and strip, don't take any chances. Better to have it apart on your drive than be stranded on the cold hard shoulder!

Magnets are no good with stainless steel washers and bolts, I know, I've got one of the "four" stuck down the back of my engine

Well Ive got a sunny morning here for once so thought Id have a good Luck for the washer...... still no joy.

So.... If im going to pull it apart do I leave it to the professionals or have a go myself?

EDIT: Im an engine ******

It is DIY skill level to take a head off.
Read up on the procedure and leave your self 2 days. One day, remove, strip tinwear, clean, head off and inspection. Day two, clean engine bay, re assemble engine and tins. Check clutch and replace plate and CRB if needed (might as well do this while the engine is out), engine back in.

Well I done it and guess what!? No washer to be seen. Never mind, it's given me peace of mind. All I've got to do now is put it all back together.

Wish me luck!

That's nothing, my apprentice dropped my 10mm spanner down the pushrod gallery into the sump on an 8 litre Cummins lorry engine :x Result, oil out and sump off. Not impressed

On a serious note, keep searching. If you can't find it you may need to pull the motor :|

Clean up around the area give everything a tap if nothing appears the strip down might be the only option have you tried the magnet in the spark plug hole
