I have a 71 bay and ive removed the brakes and intended to replace the backing plate as they are knackered. I cant get the backing plate off the dowel pin. I havnt tried too hard yet as id rather check how I should go about it. Do i drive the pin out or pull the backing plate off the dowel? I checked in the haynes manual and couldnt find anything, Thanks if you can help

Do I have to get it out to replace the backing plate? Its going to be easier to take the whole unit off the van?

You need to get the backing plate off it, you'll find it either stays with the hub or stays with the backing plate. Either way, a swine of a thing to remove
