My 71 Bay has just made a sudden clunk and stop!!
it appears to have shaken loose the alternator mount from the tinware housing and despite tightening back up the pulley isn't spinning true.
Is it common to shake loose like this? It only appears to be one of the top tinware bolts that came undone and the generator strap?
the Vee belt is very loose now too.
I plan to replace the belt and shims but could it have done more damage?
Sorcerer.

I don;t see a reason why it shook shake loose. Especially the generator strap.
Since you heard a loud clunk you may have damaged your fan that turns in the tinware housing. It is important for your cooling that it works properly.

Btw. You are talking about generator and alternator, but they are not the same. Not that it makes a difference for this issue, just thought i'd mention it.
