.....okay so ive just looked thru the panel van porn thread.... and theres masses of eb panels with various degrees of signwriting on them. but what about signwriting campervans with windows?!?

thinking of sprucing me bus a bit over the winter....but not being able to afford anything drastic...i keep coming back to the idea of tackleing some patina'd style signwriting..... but whats the verdict on campers with signwritting?!? good, bad...indifferent?!?!

having no business to advertise....is it foolish?!?!? anyone got any pics for inspiration?!?!?

cheers,
jp

I say go for it, I absolutely love signwriting on anything, as long as it's inspiring and übercool.

Some of my favorites:

1) write lengthy, rambling missive.

2) read it back.

3) realise what a complete arse it makes me look.

4) delete.

it's your bus... only YOU can decide what's right for it 8)

if you need any ideas i have run my own imaginary engineering company for 21 years now although if the advertising brought in any customers it could be a bit awkward seeing as how i don't have any premises or equipment :?

looks the nuts mate, i'm in a similar predicament!
I have a bay window and being a graphic designer i'm just gagging to pimp it with some sexy sign writing.

As my bus has a pop top though I thought it would look wrong but after seeing that aircraft bus i think it could work!

I even have a fresh paint job so i dont have the patina on my side! my advice to you is to go vinyl first, dont start slapping paint on it just in case. Then if you absolutely love it... go the paint route.

I'm adding a red-pinstripe (vinyl) the weekend as the top of my bus is white and the bottom green and the line between the two isn't perfect... if that rocks then i will just keep pushing it by adding little bits and i'm hoping my sense of design will tell me when to STOP!!!

If you want any help in your design give me a shout... i dont mind taking a look for you.

Made me chuckle as we have a signwriting business called ubercool.

thanks we thought so.

Even the chap in the bank when we cash business cheques always comments on the name. Its seems either people get it or they dont, most do!

i once put 'slothworks' as my location in my avatar thing on vzi as a gentle nod towards lockheed martin's 'skunkworks' - i thought i too was acting out on a limb from mainstream bus suspension developments at the time, but with a twist... i didn't get out of bed much to actually implement these designs... skunk... sloth... get it

anyway, somebody actually told me it should have been 'slothwerks'

er, no thank you... if i'm going to be dictated to by a superior foreign power then give me 'works' over 'werks' any day of the week... didn't my dad give up three years of his life to ensure that we wouldn't have to speak german :?

caveat : whilst the above is sort of true there's more than a hint of irony in it... never get my dad going on about the efficiency of german public transport for instance...

...now that is cool a flook!!!!!

im a little bit concerned that signwriting on a beryl green bus might look a bit sh1te?!?

been tryin to find logos that incorporate light green...and so far early dr pepper coolers are the only thing that come close!
then im gonna have to find funds for a narrowed beam, dropped spindles and adjustable rear spring plates!!!! really need to get it down lower for the 'proper' look.....

lovin the south coast customs bus.......
really like the red stripes on the front and back... then was instructed that this is due to buses that are italian commercial vehicles..... :? .....not sure about making a bus look like something its not...... hmmmmm????

red on green works i think, it shouldn't! "red and green should never be seen" as the saying goes  but if done right it does! maybe go for red writing with a white keyline around it to contrast.

go for something your into or passionate about, something with a cool little story behind it.

can't believe no ones posted this up yet, great example of signwriting ion a window bus

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

completely different thing though, surely :?:

the citrus valley bus 'works' (if you're into that kind of thing) because it's a survivor... back in the day, the owners of citrus valley campground thought "hmm, how can we get some free advertising..." put two and two together and came up with that little beauty... see also gadget's dry cleaning bus, the jiffy bus and so on and so on and quite literally so on.

whereas, had some random bloke just decided to invent some imaginary campgrounds, and apply aged signwriting to 'advertise' it, just because the makers of various magazines and forums decree that signwritten buses are fashionable at the moment, then that'd be a bit, er, daft... wouldn't it... or am i missing the point somewhere

You have a point, but that what makes the scene fun, it's easy to recreate a certain look as trends and styles change, who knows what the next look will be?

I have a idea that it will be totally stock, just as it left the factory buses - interior, paint, and wait for it - ride height!

Stocks the way forward!! And all I need to do it is scrape of the stickers on my windows and i am there!! Not that i am a follower of certain fashions you understand....

I'll get me coat - or should that be anorak.......?

erm...the words 'worms' and 'cans' spring to mind! ahhh well nice to get a good bit of healthy debate going....

...i dunno.... maybe i'll just get me rattle cans out and do what i do best and thump a whacking great stencil on the side!

Thru_a_Lupe you know you have that Santa Cruz Hand with the mouth at the bottom of your post's...well was it your van I saw at the paignton show this year with it stenciled on the rear of your bus? it also had the banksy 'this is not a photo opportunity' on it too.

Damm that bus was cool.

Mr. lupe; your bus [imho] is the absolute dogs bollocks, whatever you decide, i am sure it will be class. Best of luck, Chris.

Presuming the bus in above thread is yours (well, whoever owns it) ,what a cool bus!
Looks the part, well cool, would be proud to be the owner!
It ain't broke, so don't fix it!
