I've just figured two things out:
1) you have to pull the handle up to get the sliding door to close properly, I did know this actually, but it was never possible for some reason.
2) the little inside lock leaver flops down, preventing 1)

I can achieve 1) if I hold the little leaver up whilst I pull the handle up it closes the door properly and the little leaver falls back down making it locked, cool I'm now safe at night.

I can close it properly from the outside as well if I reach in and hold the little leaver up whilst pulling the outside handle up. But the little leaver falls back down and locks the door, not a massive issue, but I'd rather the little leaver didn't auto lock for me.

Anyone know how to go about fixing, does it just need tightening?

Ours is the same, think there is a spring inside the mechanism that holds the lever up! but dont think it can be replaced because its a sealed-unit, i just put a bit of bluetack under the leaver to stop it flopping down then lock the door with the key or if we are in the van just remove the bluetack

hope this helps
