Sooooo.... new SVDA dizzy fitted and WOW!!!! What a difference over the 009. Accelerating up to 30mph is brilliant now!

However, still seems down on top end power, and still running rich (plugs are blackened).

So trying to sort out the Solex 34 PICT 3 that I refurbed. Checking the jets, they are:
x130 main; 110z air correction; g55 pilot.

I also had a knackered solex off ebay (I didn't know it was knackered til I stripped it) with:
x125 main; 60z air correction; g55 pilot

I tried those jets, and although it runs, it's very hesitant when it accelerates - a lurching sort of thing after a few revs have built up.

So checking Bentley and Haynes, they suggest x125; 60z; g57.5 or g60
The vw-resource pages suggest a x127.5 main
And on volkszone I've seen x125; 80z; g55

So, any advice out there? What should it be for the UK?
I'm tempted to try x130; 60z; g55 next, as I have them to hand.

Oh, and I had hoped to see an x150 in there to explain the poor economy, but that wasn't to be :-(

Cheers,
Nick

For reasons best known to themselves VW under jetted early 1600 twin port bays.

The stock carbs fitted on twin ports in bays, back in the day, had smaller jets than on the beetles using the same engine - hence the confusion.

We used to change the original bay jets to those in the beetle 1303/1302S beetle (130) which gave better performance, got rid of the hesitation and - weirdly - improved mpg. The theory at the time was that with the larger jets one didnt have to give a bootfull just to pull away without stalling.

Aha, so I am better off keeping the 130 main jet.

I'm thinking the hesitancy is due to the switch-over from the idle circuit to the main, which might imply upping the correction jet a little, or perhaps the pilot jet to a 57.5/60?

Hi there where are you getting your jets from? I used to use a motorbike company as they were the same jets something like mikino but really can't remember where I got them from, so where's the best place to buy new jets?
Oh and I always used to up the main to a 130
