im just about to order a new stock exhaust and j pipes for my bus from jk. do they vary in quality i want a stock one do i have any better options?

Yes, they do vary in quality.

Leistritz are the highest quality, Ernst are a bit crap in comparison.

I've had a (nearly new) secondhand Leistritz backbox on my van for a year now and it shows very little sign of any deterioration at all - a good layer of heatproof paint and it looks fine. In comparison, the Ernst tailpipe has been repainted every 3 or 4 months and surface rust keeps coming back.

I've heard the JK stainless stock style exhaust is good.

There is also a chap on VZi selling stock-style stainless bus exhausts, but they are around £225 I think.

thanks tofufi im going to order by phone to make sure it is leistritz. im replacing a twin quiet pack its come apart where the j pipe meets the header bit. i could put a new clamp on but everything seems to be under pressure to meet up, i want stock anyway so now seems a good time.
scott would have loved one of those exhausts but need to take the cheaper options where i can.

Forgot to say... my Leistritz is actually shockingly quiet.

At 50mph there is very little engine noise at all, it is drowned out by wind noise!

My family don't hear me coming up the road and pulling up outside any more, either

that sounds perfect thanks for the advice tofufi. suspension advice needed next time :)

phoned jk and heritage today and they both say leistritz are no longer being produced so it looks like it will have to be ernst.

Bluebird custom do a stock stainless set up, worth the extra in my opinion.
I considered one of those, but it doesnt have the heater pods, so I went for the quiet pack they do instead as Id be using extended hoses in either case.

looks great! but i just cant afford one at the moment i know it would save me money in the long run, so it looks like an ernst one until i can

Have you considered trying to find a secondhand one?

Not being funny... I got my Leistritz backbox secondhand for £20. It is as solid as the day it was made.

Might be worth getting a cheap secondhand one, dousing it in heatproof paint and saving up for the stainless system? :)

Both this forum and Volkszone have good secondhand bits all the time, if you get a good one it'll last you ages.
