I've just adjusted my handbrake and it wasn't normal, in that I can't find any reference to it online. There is no balance bar and each side is adjusted at the base of the leaver. Makes it very difficult to get them balanced.

Any ideas?

A balance bar was fitted underneath the cab floor from 1972 MY.
You have to adjust the rear brakes first. Loosen the cable locknuts at the base of the handbrake lever, pull the handbrake out 5 clicks and (using a screwdriver to stop the cables turning) tighten the adjusting nuts until each rear wheel can just be turned by hand. Adjust each side equally.
