Hi guys,

After reading about tekenders on LB and I was after a bit more nformation on the format so to speak. I would love to be able to sit and watch and learn from others, so does Trekkers offer this or is it more a case of meeting up and working on their rides together?

On a side note, does anyone know of any meets local to Cheltenham or local clubs I could attend and have a chinwag with others about?

Thanks

SFF

in my early days i found techenders really good as confidence booster, and it used to be just up the road from me, near hinckley don't even know if it still runs, i think they did start one further south as it was a quite central and being north of watford was almost the edge of the known world for some. 8)

It still happens at Victoria farm. Next one is sat 13th & sun 14th April 2013. Not sure if it's okay to put a link up (mods please delte if it's not) but being as the JK people seem to organise most of it, here it is http://www.justkampers.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=188201" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I've found it usefull, thats if you don't actually drink too much and become incapable of holding a set of feeler gauges and a spanner (multi tasking here) also good to talk about shafts and ribs if thats yer bag. :)

How does it actually run then? Do people just work on their own vehicles or do people run workshops to show engine removal/carb balancing etc..

Usally it's divided into groups depending on what someone wants to do. Say, ten people want to learn basic service, then someone who is compenent will lead the instruction/demo. If someone has say, twin carbs to put on but is unsure on certain things then if anyone there has knowledge of doing it, they will help out or indeed anyone else thats there. There's usally a list on the JK site to say who's going and what they want to achive out of it. I've not been for a couple of years but basically that's how it works. The last time I was there,two people dropped engines, one had twin webbers and I think the rest did basic service. With alcohol. :shock:

Sounds pretty good to me mate, the missus will be away so I will probs be on my tod. I don't mind taking a back seat and watching. I find this is the best way to learn, especially when people give the little tips that help with the process.

Do you have a link to the site where I can find out whats going on? I think I will defo's attend this.. Might even be my first outing in the van haha... Do people do interior work etc? Would love to know about scribing out wood to fit nicely to the curves of the vehicle.

Cheers

The reason us on the late bay "do our own thing" as you say is because the "original" techenders started to fade away, basically all the original guys who organised it dropped out due to family stuff etc (the website you link is nearly 5 years out of date) and early last year no-one was willing to organise anything - so tuesday wildchild (from late bay and jk) who has attended many asked if anyone would be willing to help him with organising and there wasn't a rush..... so i stepped in and said ok i'll do whatever i can.... so although the techenders brand as such belongs to nobody the last 2 dates set and the next one in april 2013 have been booked by us - certainly to the point it's us that talks to eddie the farm owner about dates and numbers coming etc, the poll for what date they run now gets decided on late bay and also a list of who is doing what job or willing to teach etc..... i belive tuesday out of courtesy adds it up on jk although that's just for publicity and courtesy really as it's usually all decided on latebay - now with facebook etc it gets all over and it's not limited to bays - any vw is welcome.

Nearer the time we will start a thread on who is coming and what they want to do on their van on the weekend in question.
