So I’ve watched UTube vids about testing the distributor buy sucking through a tube to see if the gubbins inside move. I’ve done this and nothing is moving. Am I doing this right? Is the vac can knackered? Thanks for your help in advance

If it doesn't move then the diaphragm in the advance can is probably broken. You can remove it from the carb and suck on it and if air pulls through then it is broken. It's pretty obvious when it is working with a discernible mechanical feel to it when working.
