ive been havin a on goin problem for a few months now and i think i no what it is but wanted to check with you guys to see if any 1 has had this problem and the way u would solve it, :(

ive re piped my fuel system from tank to pump to my carbs and put a new in line fuel filter in and its running again as i was checkin in case there was a blockage.
it will idel ok but trys to cut out every so often but if i sit the reves at 2000 rpm it will sit like like it for a few seconds then it will rev up to 4000 - 4500 rpm on its own ive ive been to a garage just down the road and he said its running lean i dont no where to start to see if this is true please could any 1 give me a pointer in the rite direction

i have a 1641 twin carb set up with a electronic distributor (009) not the vac style 1

1 thing i have notice is befor i did the fuel system the exhaust was getting warm vvvvvery quick which pointed my in the direction of running lean but since ive changed the fuel system its been better and does seem to be getting as warm but it still isnt runing 100%

please could any 1 help my as i want to start driving it again

Have you checked to see how the fuel flows from the tank - eg. take the pipe off the inlet side of the pump? It could be a blocked inlet on the fuel tank.

And your timing is set at? If its retarded it will make it run hot. What carbs? Stock engine?

ive had my timing done and as far as i no he set its set right that was at absloute vw
its a twin port engine with twin 36s on it i think

I was told to run my bus down the road n back then kill the ignition asap and carefully pop a spark plug out and check the colour

ive ran it down the track near where its stored and pulled the spark plug out and its a little back but dont look to bad

i took the pipe off the tank and its free flowing and the i took the piper off the carb and ran the pump and it shot out about a meter from the van so i no its all running rite

ive just been talkin to some 1 and they said its got something to do with my coil and wat he said its making me pull my thought to that way what would u guy think to that idea

Yes its certainly worth checking the ignition system now since the fuel seems to be fine from what you say.
