Thinking of Testing the Water / gauging the interest

Seriously considering time to call it a day, just not enjoying driving the van as much as i used to, dont really get the time with the shifts i work and for some unknown reason i just haven't taken to this van.
Thinking that after our holiday in July (dubz @ the castle then a week away in the van) depending on how we feel it might be up for sale.
I know that with the engine issues the van hasn;t been on the road that long but since MOT'ing it back in March i've done less than 20 miles and even then i didn;t really enjoy it (might have been because of the engine issues)
Tempted to put a sign in the window at Dubz@ the castle to gauge if there is any interest and to be totally honest if it does sell / we decide to sell i'm not actually looking to replace it with anything :shock:

Not that i know of :lol:
Just fancy a complete change, as said just not really into the van at the moment, secretly hoping that by going to the show and then on holiday (about 4-500 miles) i will change my mind but at the moment i cant see it happening hence why im trying to gauge interest rather than advertise it

Froggy, as you know by looking through some of the resto threads on here that we all get pissed off at times.
As much as I understand your frustrations so , ( if finances allow, obviously ) why not take it off the road
for a while and see how you feel in a few months. (sorry if that make me sound like your parents :lol: )
Once it's gone ,it's gone.
My bus has been off the road for nearly 4 years now and every weekend when the currant bun is out I say to
my Mrs "I'll be glad when that bloody van is back on the road , we can start enjoying it "
At this moment I envy anyone whose bus is pretty much up and running.
Have a break for a while and see how you feel about having another 'tinker' in a few months time -

Hang in there Froggy, you know it makes sense , besides, it's in your blood now !!

Having the urge to sell mine aswell but i probably wont (as the missus will probably leave me).
If you decide to sell and regrett it, you could always buy another i guess, finances permitting.

To be totally honest i think the only person that will be upset will be the daughter but i'm sure a (black mailed) trip to euro disney will smooth things over.
Dont me wrong, this isn't something that just happened its been building over time and with the shifts i work and when i'm off the wife works we just dont get the time to use it.
Personally think its as good as gone but if we have a good holiday then..........

I felt like a change and sold my sweet *** splitty for 6k and got an impreza, lost a load of money on it as it depreciated rapidly with the cost of petrol and now i have a rusty as **** bay which i can't even drive.

How stupid am I? wish i'd garaged my rust free splitty instead of fancying a change because i'd love it back now

As the others have said, its easy to get doubts when you haven't used it for a while. I know after making the decision to buy our 70 I got pissed off spending time in a cold garage, doing exactly the same jobs I had done of our previous bus. Wondering why I'd done it. Even this year after doing the work over winter, having the engine go south on our first trip out brought those doubts back, but once I got it back on the road again, it soon gave that good feeling back.

At the end of the day you have to go with what your feeling and you can always get another in the future (Maybe not a RHD early westy though :roll: ).

Let hope you get your mojo back at dubs at the castle. It will be good to catch up with you all.

There has been a few of us EBer's that "seem to of had enough" of our buses just recently, me included.

I was in the market for a change of bus and not to get out of the scene.
I know chaps that are in the same boat as yourself. Getting out all together or buying a t4/t5

I would just make sure your mind is 100% made up..... i know that my gang would never speak to me again if we didnt have a camper on our drive :lol:
But i'm self employed and seem to have a lot of free time to get away :x :| (feast or famine)

:shock: oh froggy this is a path i have walked we sold ours and in doing so slowly drifted of the scene not intentionaly just through work and no point in going to the shows when i finaly realised i wanted a van the cost of them had gone through the roof it was a hard slog to find the money to get one and harder to find the one we wanted if you can store it some where dry then do it i hope a nice break away in the old girl will remind you of the good times and re-kindle the vw fire only you and the family can make the choice..but in youre vans defence..sometimes you dont know what youve got till its gone..it aint paradise soo put up a park... :shock: sorry im rambling again.. :lol: :lol: good luck and i hope this helps.. :mrgreen:

Im thinking more Old skool ford (mk1/Mk2 escort or a MK3 capri) and eventually becoming a 2 car family again

Yeah it will be good to get out (at last) and you never know it might just re-charge the batteries

Ive not used mine camping wise hardly at all so far this year - 3 nights total to date but Im looking forward to the big summer trip now. You cant expect to be bang on it 100% of the time. Get some good times done and you may feel differently .... if not, have a change.

Agree i think some sun might help and as for 3 nights, i'd take that i haven't even done 20 miles let alone an overnighter.
To be totally honest i'm slowly losing faith in it all.
Would it of been the same if i had kept my other van??? honestly i think the answer is yes.
A change is as good as a holiday (although the holiday has to come 1st :lol: )

Well, I don't know any of you guys personally, just the odd exchange here. But I do know
that everyone's personal situation changes.

When I bought my van in 96 it was for a bit of fun and so my (then) girlfriend and I
wouldn't argue about who was driving to the party/festival or WHY. I wasn't into any scene
and I found the bus in my dad's mates repair garage with a blown engine - gave 750 for it.
I could just as easily bought a Bedford CF camper.

Now I'm marrried (different bird BTW) with three young kids and I am thinking why have I got this extra responsibility I have no time for. In fact I think that the prices are so good maybe I should cash it in and buy something like T4 daily. But the kids get excited about it and it gives me a hobby that relieves the boredom of home maintenance (albeit only a
few hours a month)

So I think the answer for you is simple. If you like being in a 'club' and the bon homie of the forums then keep the bay. If you have a family that enjoys camping and you want to go regularly hassle free with low/no maintenanece get the t4/5. If not either then the a coke bottle Cortina Mk3 GXL canary yellow with a black vinyl roof is the way to go - no question !!

But only if you get out more than 20 miles a quarter

shift work mate. :evil: work to live, not live to work.

i know its easy to say. but i spent a good few years before i was married hunting money and each time the shift pattern got sh#tter. i had to take a pay drop to come off shifts when i met my now wife. it has taken me 9 years to get back to the wage i was on then but i do get my weekends off and work the standard 8.30 to 4.30.

Dont make a rash desision mate. get away in it use it to go to the shops in etc and let it get under your skin. if it still doesnt cut the mustard sell it on.

have you ever tried kipping in a cortina? i did once and i dont think my back has been the same since.

At the end of the day, if you are not using it or not enjoying it when you do then it could be time for a change.
BUT, you could regret it in time like a lot of people seem to do.
My van has been off the road for 6 years (WFT :evil: ) and as you know I have thought of throwing in the towel many times, but at the end of the day, its paid for so the only costs are the repairs etc. Decided to see it through and take it from there - got a feeling I will be keeping it for many years to come, but over the years will be totally changed.

Good luck with your holidays and hope you make the right decision for your self
