Hi all, I'm currently fitting a type 4 engine code AW into my 72 bay. My plan is to install dual Weber 40idf's.

I had it in the bus to check it fitted and ran...it did but I was unable to get her tuned particularly well. I've dropped it out as I need to replace the engine mounts anyway and took the opportunity to have a look at the valves by removing the current progressive carb inlet manifold.

#1 clean and dry

#2 cruddy?

#3 clean and dry
#4 clean and dry

I've put the photos of the valve below.
Eventually my question!

Is this okay or should I be stripping it out and starting afresh?

Three years in my workshop and still feel I'm getting nowhere fast!

If it looks to be oily then look at the guides. If it is carbon then you need to set the lash or look at the seats as they are not sealing correctly.
