Hi all. I'm a newbie to this forum and also the joy (and other emotions I'm sure will ensue) of early bay ownership. I'm now honoured with possession of a '71 south African westy (so rhd). I wish to install 2 belts for my children who are 8 and 6. Ideally, 3 point jobs would be good. Wondering if this is possible without butchering the wardrobe unit which is on the passenger side. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers all :)

For the drivers side there is a guy on the late bay that sells a bracket to fit 3 point belts, I recently fitted one. Passenger side I think will require some degree of butchery :(

The only options for the other side is a lap belt which aren't the safest, or removing the cupboard and, perhaps putting in a full width rock and roll bed and fitting a belt there.

This might help you:

I fitted 3 point harness belts in for my 8 & 6 yr old boys. They fit into the bolt holes that are under the seat and work well with their car booster seats. That way they are secured by both their shoulders in case something happened. Also don't interfer when using the bed.

Thanks Baytripper. Its all looking doable now. If you've any info on where I can get these or any pics of them installed or otherwise, that'd be cool as air. In my mind's eye I was routering a horizontal slot to feed belt through wardrobe unit. Not sure this would have worked anyway and hacking about my new (old) van was a daunting prospect. Cheers for your help.

Is the rear cushion full width or is that an insert? My insert doesn't have the cutout for the reel so I was thinking about chopping it unless I can find one made to fit!

It's a stock 3/4 R&R bed. I had to get the upholstery modified to accommodate the bar...nuisance.

Which belts did you use for the cupboard side wanderlust?

I used harness belts on both of the seats. They use 3 fixing points, I used the ones that are under the seat. The belts cost about £22 each and both the boys prefer them to normal 3 point belts.
