Hi guys,

whilst taking our second trip to Cornwall in as many weeks 8) one of the westy roof hinges snapped :x and caused the bleedng thing to nearly take off!

Anyway, luckily a friend at the jamboree was good enough to lend me a tie down to get us home and I just need to get the old man to fabricate a new cross member for me to fix it.

What im really after though is whilst i was there looking around I noticed some of the front hinging roofs have some kind of latch mechanism right at the front of the roof in the middle. It's a kind of C shape that holds the front down whilst driving I guess? needless to say mine is missing and I think thats what caused the problem. Anyone got any pics of said latch so We can attemp to make a similar one? or better still know of anywhere I can get one.

Thanks

Al

I don't hink they had them until 70/71, my 69 hasn't got one.

If the roof hinges are adjusted properly you should be fine as the hinges should hold the roof down pretty firmly.

I made up a new hinge for mine as the same had happened, it fits very tightly now so no lifting when driving can occur.

thanks faux, i think thats what im gonna have to do as no one seems to have just the hinges in stock.

hi, does anyone know the measurements for those hinges?
I mean my bus didn't have a westy roof so I don't know where to drill the holes.
Could you please please pretty please with sugar on top measure it up for me?
Thanks

If you let me know which measurements you need I will do it on the next dry day.

Sure, I need to find out where to drill the holes for the front and rear hinges.
Maybe the easiest way is to take a pic and then draw on it with MS paint or something.
Surely a measurement from the raised edge on the roof to the hinge will do?
Many thanx!!!!

Hi Sorry this has taken so long but I have been waiting for a dry day:

Here are the details:

Rear - from centre of bolt to gutter edge - 157mm

Front - from centre of bolt to gutter edge - 145mm
P100908_1535.jpg

Front - in order to get the correct distance I have given an additional measurement from front bolt centre to the gutter directly above the door seam - 190mm

I hope this helps

Jon

Thanx a lot!!
I'll try and see if I can make it work tomorrow.
Maybe another measurement from the windshield gutter to the first bolt and the distance between the bolts? Don't wanna impose or anything but I really wanna get it right

Hi

I tried to get the other measurement but it was too difficult to get the angle right. The measurements i gave should work if you have og hinges.

If not I will try to make more measurements but may be after the weekend....sorry
