I seem to have 2 bolts in the left one but none at the top and 1 bolt in the right one but none in the other 3 holes... :?:

Seat belt mounts, the belts bolt in from the other side of that panel.

to me the top ones look as though they might be seat belt ancorage points for the rear microbus seats. if you look in the rear panel under the window u might see a small white plastic screw too.

Arrr awesome, so as I guess this was originally a 'clipper' which I figure is a microbus / people carrier, so it used to have seatbelts which means that it would be pretty easy to re-install the Microbus seat and seatbelts? :?: 8)

Currently it has a home-made camping interior which Im going to sell.

All buses with side windows, would have originally come from the factory as a microbus etc with rear seats, so the belt mountings would be fitted across all buses. Obviously Panel vans wouldnt. what i mean is the camping conversion was done elsewhere.

It would not have had rear seat belts when built. Nothing did. The anchorages were fitted to cater for different markets around the world. So VW just built one body which fitted all contingencies.

Arr, the reason I question is because my wedge had no anchor points at all and that was a panel van from the factory..

Thanks guys...

Before you get over-excited about the possibility of fitting rear belts, check the mounting points on the wheel arches. On many UK and import vans these have rusted out (due to numpty VW design fault) and simply had plates welded over them. Even if they are still there, check them carefully for serious rust - I saw one that pulled out as the result of an emergency stop

i didnt mention about rear seat belts being 'fitted', of course they didnt come with rear seat belts fitted but the fixing mounts or anchorages as you call them were always there from the factory which is what i said
