Which pushrod tubes?

So, engine is coming out to look at oil cooler and add the little bits of tinware between the cylinders.

Being a bit of a chicken, I'm thinking of using spring-loaded or adjustable tubes, to save removing the heads.

So which are best? Sprung loaded or adjustable (with large nut/locknut)?

On the sprung loaded, there's a huge range in price. Although the buy expensive/buy once usually applies, it's like £70 for 8 or £60 each!!! Which focusses the mind.

Can the under cylinder tin be fitted without removing the heads?

Ooh, I kinda assumed that I'd be able to bend them in without removing the head. If not, then I'll reuse my existing tubes. And go for the bigger job...

tired and beery reply ,what you on about? you can fit spring loaded push rod tubes in situ ,remove screws from heat ex and engine for bottom tin and flex down ,remove rocker covers and push rods and then bend old tubes out ,spring in new spring loaded tubes ,refit the rest.and use good seals.

i use JayCee tubes, wider for high lift cams and rockers. some of the empi bolt up ones especially the blue n gold ones can rub the push rods away, unless they are just in the correct position

I can see how my post could be misread - I was talking about the little tinware pieces, when I said bend them in - not the pushrod tubes!!!

Hello mate
not an expert but always been told that pushfit pushrods are not worth bothering with, false economy as they say especially when you are taking the engine out and a year down the line and having to do it again

Yes You can fit the under cylinder tinware without removing the heads. As said just remove the rocker shafts, remove the push rods and cut through the push rod tubes, bend tinware to suit and then fit spring loaded push rod tubes and replace push rods, rocker shafts and adjust valve clearances.
Although if your removing the engine then just take the heads off, takes less than 5 mins and a lot eaiser.
