About 5 years ago hitting 40 I decided to have a mid life crisis and wanted an old classic. I was looking at Triumph Heralds, Mk1 Escorts etc. Then we went to St Ives for two weeks. My misses kept asking what all the old campers were driving around. I'd always loved em (anything 60's/70's) but knew they were fetching a lot of money. It did make me think it was a midlife crisis my whole family, misses and two kids, could enjoy. Fast forward 6 weeks and I spotted a bus on ebay about 25 miles from where I lived, at a £1500 Buy it Now. Couldn't believe the price and was trying to ring the misses for approval. Ended up hitting the button and became the owner of XFC 698K a RHD Danbury tintop. I then spent the next 2 years with this off the road working on it all hours to get it fully rebuilt, so much for family time. Then the fire hit and the bus got destroyed, couldn't go through all the pain and time away again, so with the money the insurance paid 3 years ago I bought a 71 US Deluxe through Gods good/Graham L on here.
Best thing I did, been to a fair few shows in it and last year did 1500 miles to Euro Disney, Normandy and back. Looking forward to Devon this year, Camperjam and Busfest.

We had a Splitscreen van a good few years ago but decided to sell it a to release some much needed funds. Since then we've had a few Beetles and vans, the last one being a fairly non descript watercooled hightop T25. Last year the wife was diagnosed and treated for the big "C" which made us sit back and revalue things (violins not required as all is well). Most of our best memories were of sweating our bits off on foreign shores in our splitty, or picnicing on the hard shoulder round various parts of the country....all hard work but good fun! Bugger house repairs, spend your money on van bits and accessories you don't actually need

We used to camp but grew tired of air beds leaking and waking up on hard cold floor, around the time my wife was paid off with stress, don't actually remember why we suddenly wanted a camper and it became a bit of an obsession. Yes we were maybe fashion victims but we were committed :)
We sold her Audi TT and swapped for life in the slow lane. It had to be 60/70s vehicle, we randomly chose to see our bay, wasn't in best condition but we love it regardless and are prepared to invest time/money/effort to get it how we want it. It seemed to make perfect sense as I have a lot of time off with work so plenty of opportunity to holiday..life gets in way and it'll be July before we're away in camper this year but we have learnt patience. We never stress when in camper whatever life throws at us.

I like old vehicles, bought 1st one 14years ago and then got 2 old motorbikes and a 1961 volvo car, we went on a few holidays in Cornwall and saw a lot of buses but the old volvo wasnt any good to go on holiday in and i made a decision to look for a bus, sold a bike and the volvo to fund the bus and then bought the first one I saw as it was different from others
