its probably oil contamination from flywheel oil seal. change it yourself, all you need is a jack and some tools, about 3 hour job max. and will cost you about a tenner for the seal. just clean the bellhousing, flywheel and clutch with some brake cleaner @ £4 a tin

i went for the 2.0L 8v petrol golf motor. dirt cheap to buy, can be put at standard 15 degree, or 45 degree. i did mine via self designed billet ally adaptot and t25 diesel flywheel. if you get t25 diesel bellhousing, flywheel, and sump you can have the engine at 45 degree so it doesnt poke...
