    Restoration Work after fire ...

Unfortunately Cat A means the van has to be crushed and proof sent to Dvla. Yes they're trying it on all right. Seems a ridiculous process

    Restoration Work after fire ...

Yes, I find it a strange decision and the idea of smashing up a van that in it's current state is more solid and has more potential then many is terrible. I've appealed to the senior engineer who will re-look at the file apparently. If he agrees with the original decision I can bring an...

    Restoration Work after fire ...

Hi everyone - follow up to progress. Bit of a disaster really. The insurance company have finally come back with an offer but have made the van a cat A right off. Tottaly ridiculous if you've seen some of the pics and I just can't see how they have made that assessment. Anyone had this before...

    Restoration Work after fire ...

Hi, After a fire gutted my lovely 72 Bay in June this year I've just finished writing up the refurb plan. Hopefully the insurance company will settle in the right ball park and I'll be able to have it rebuilt back to what it once was. It took me 17 years to get it looking & driving right but...

    advise on engine stud please!

Yes, mines very loose. Hardly grips at all but since its a blind hole you would think that liquid metal or lock tight would hold it. I'm off on a big trip to Spain next week (3000 miles) so its a bit worrying

    advise on engine stud please!

That's correct. Is a helical an option do you think?

    advise on engine stud please!

I thought about that but not sure if it would hold. I guess it doesn't have to be torqued up very tightly

    advise on engine stud please!

Whilst removing the gland nut to change the oil seal I bent then subsequently sheared off one of the engine studs. I carefully drilled it out, starting small, then up to 8.5mm and re-tapped. Thought I had cracked-it but turns out the stud screws in but won't tighten. The hole is too big. I tried...

    Problem with Dells

I took the filter off when tunning the carbs and something fell in and logged itself in the chamber. Soon as I cleaned it out it worked as good as new what a relief.

    Problem with Dells

Sorted, detritus in the chamber was blocking the butterfly. Thanks for you help guys.

    Problem with Dells

That's very good to know, thank you. They're 36's. I'll get them off tonight. I've not stripped down the internals of a dell before, hopefully not too difficult.

    Problem with Dells

Yep, came to the same conclusion. I'll get on it tonight. Had another thought - what do you think? I adjusted the linkage to make sure I was getting full throttle from the pedal. Could I have set it up so the pedal was causing the throttle to push overly hard on the throttle stop. So hard in...

    Problem with Dells

Nope - spring still in place and working. It's definatly something inside, possibly the butterfly, bearing or shaft I guess that is stopping it returning to the throttle stop. I did floor it when testing. I wanted to make sure I was getting the carbs fully open but that should have only forced...

    Problem with Dells

Right, will give that a go. Is that something that happens to Dells? I cant think what else could be holding it open or how that might have happened.

    Problem with Dells

Spent all day setting up my Dells and they were running really nicely. Went for a spin and thrashed it a bit. Big problem. The right hand carb is sticking open about 25mm from the stop. Something seems to hav stuck open inside the right carb. What could have happened? Anything obvious, or...

Engine rebuild problem - rocker shaft

Do you know what diameter should they be?

Engine rebuild problem - rocker shaft

Thanks Alex - could that be the only issue? I thought I put them on the right way, but I'll double check if I can find a way to get it off.

Engine rebuild problem - rocker shaft

I've replaced my heads, cylinders and pistons. It's a 1641 stock engine. I've run into a problem because I thought the rocker arm went straight back in. Just tried to put the rocker shaft back into the head and couldn't get it to seat properly so I removed the pushrods to make it a bit easier...
