    Camping heat, gas or diesel????

I have a heater core under the front tube in the splash pan for my front defrost/heat so I would say it might be possible to use a diesel heater under there. Putting it too far back down the tube would lower the temperature of course.

    Brakes!!!!!

This has been discussed for years on the Samba, the 71 brake system is more than capable of stopping the bus, IF all the components are working properly, the brake booster can be an overlooked piece of the system. There are some who have swapped the booster for a 90’s Jetta to get a higher ratio...

    Engine

that doghouse is a serious downgrade from the OG doghouse if those outlets extend into the airstream like the one in the picture, and you have no thermostat and flaps

    ENGINE CHUGS

What’s the timing set at? 009 needs to be set at 28-30 degrees at 3000 rpm. And when you increased the size of your pistons did you re-jet your carb for the increase in CC’s? It could be falling on its face because it is going lean.

    1975 Panel Restoration/Build Camper

my floors were painted, then strips of vibration dampener, in the low spots, a layer of low E insulation, then 1/4"Baltic birch on the bottom cut for all the raised bumps, and 3/8" baltic birch ply on top, both layers sealed with a urethane varnish. topped off with a vinyl decking membrane, AKA...

    New member from Sweden

We spent a while with big cardboard boxes after we had the bed setup trying to decide where to put things, and what we wanted. We went with a jetboil genesis stove so we can cook inside and out. a deep bar sink so we can actually use it for dishes, with a 12v pump and tap with two 4 gallon jugs...

    indicators and restoration

Start here https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/1968-69bus_turn.jpg From the wiring for just the 68/69 signals it would look like the relay is your culprit, it has a lot more wires running through it than a later relay

    indicators and restoration

Check your terminals and wires are in the correct place first, all the terminals are marked . I would suspect the signal light switch is shorting out, (bad contact or melted/damaged wires) since the emergency flashers use the same wiring to the lights. I had one of the expensive repop switches...

    Fuel lines

Use good hose like Gates Barricade that is rated SAE J30R14T2 for modern fuels. I have some that’s been in use for 8 years that is still like new inside. I pulled a section off last year to check it, and split it open. The braided German stuff only lasted 2 years before cracking and leaking on...

    Lean Carb Back-fire

Clean out your idle jet, parked idling is a different circuit than actually driving on the idle jet. It could be lean on the idle jet too, just because it is set for lean best idle doesn’t mean it’s the correct idle jet to drive on...

    Lares

Yes the Lares 209 VS the C&C OEM quality reproduction coupler was a huge difference, firm steering VS wet noodle, the C&C coupler I could fold in half after 2 months use https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=8859928&cc=1285949&pt=10681&jsn=860

    Camping heat, gas or diesel????

Lots of ideas here for the diesel . https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=727273&highlight=diesel+heater Mine is in a thin cabinet behind the pass seat, and I used the old sink drain hole for intake/exhaust on the floor, and the intake is behind the front wheel, exhaust is towards...

    Over riders, yes?, or no?

In all reality the stock bumper is close to the body and not very thick in the first place. That’s why I built my own rear step bumper out of sch40 pipe, screw those plastic bumper new cars. Still working on ideas for a new front one with roo bar type protection

    Tachometer

I like the auto meter mini monster tachometer, they are smaller and come in a bunch of different face options , I’ve mounted them over the mirror in a couple of beetle installs and it is a great place to see it out of the corner of your eye and not have to look down. Fishing the wires up into...
