Aircooled Campout (inc Earlybay.com Campout) - Event Deferred - Please read

Yes its back for 2024, the original and best Aircooled Campout, no commercial sponsors, no traders, no food vans just back to basic camping with people into the same vehicles. Yes its the same weekend as Camperjam but as they dont give a **** about aircooled vehicles and are all about making...

    Camper Jam

Aircooled Campout is the 5-7th July 2024, same dates as Camperjam deliberately giving people the option of a commercial show or laid back chilled camping with other Aircooled buses etc

    Carburretor Quiz

Sounds like the garage doesnt know what its doing, on a stock engine the stock carb works great, bite the bullet and get a fully refurbed 34 Pict 3 from Rage in Holland, rage.nl https://rage-keveronderdelen.nl/. No need to fit twin carbs

    Adjustable Spring Plates

As Sparky has mentioned 7's can cause an issue on the rear especially as they can foul the adjuster block on the spring plate, the hightop runs 6's on the rear with an ET47 and I had to run spacers to get them to clear the adjuster, I think I'm on 15mm spacers from memory

    Adjustable Spring Plates

All really depends on how low you are running or want to go, we usually fit the one inch drop ones and turn a single spline and adjust from there, a 2" drop on the back end is not very much at all, I'm very dubious about claims of being able to get the rear wheel off without removing the bottom...

    Bottle Jack adapter…

We always jack under the strengthener where the front or rear outrigger meets the main chassis leg, its far stronger and you have less height to jack, never on the jacking points

    Parts For Sale Mixed parts

No they are 68-70 rear backing plates with the straight adjuster block, 71 on have angled blocks.

    Max Tyre Size for R14 (215? 205?)

I fitted 195R14 Maxxis Worm Drives to the Crew cab, even with those you get a little bit of rubbing on full lock so wouldnt go much bigger (Good Tyres, very little road noise and cheaper than BF Goodrich, try Camskill for prices)

    C&C

Try Schofield's instead, much better service and they stock good quality parts although a smaller range

    Busfest.

For it to make a return to its Aircooled days they would need to attract the Aircooled traders and Autojumblers back but as Sean the trade manager pissed us all off years ago that's never going to happen, he's the reason most traders no longer go, he was their 'trade prevention officer' Plenty...

Hot Engine and Oil light on advice needed

Personally I wouldn't trust the save my bug unless it's been calibrated properly, they are notorious for giving false readings as it's a bit of bent copper that sends the signal. As others have said don't use a monograde, VW changed the spec in the mid 70's and we have always used a 15/40...

    V5c query

Just make sure the stamped in VINs are present, on a bay up to and including 71MY its in the engine bay on the right hand side on an angled plate just in front of the air cleaner stand. Dont just check the rivetted on plate as they are easy to swap over.

    Loose fuel inlet (lucky escape)

Proper screw style fuel hose clips that keep a circular shape when tightened and unbraided ethanol resistant fuel hose.

    Loose fuel inlet (lucky escape)

Not being picky but I'd be more concerned about your braided fuel lines and the fact you've used a jubilee rather than a fuel hose clip, braided lines hide perished fuel lines and jubilee clips squash rather than clamp evenly around the hose.

    Water on cab floor

It's usually wiper spindle rubbers if they haven't been installed correctly, windscreen rubbers only tend to leak if they are the cheap ones that are too narrow or the bus has had a repair section under the windscreen as the repair panels are the wrong profile

Parts Wanted Wanted: OG VW rocker covers

There's a batch of rocker gaskets out there that always leak regardless of what you do, the elring ones are particularly bad as they've changed the compound and it has less cork in it and under a microscope looks like the moon's surface, we are having to use sealant which we never had to do.

    Front Beam replacement

As above it's possible on the ground on axle stands, much easier to install the beam with just the leaves and steering arm on and then install the trailing arms with ball joints once the beam itself is installed, makes it a far easier job and we do it that way even though we have a lift, just...
