    Engine overheating?

I will be interested to learn whether it survives to 25,000, 50,000, 75,000 or even 100,000 miles!?!

    Engine overheating?

I don't use high-intensity illumination in my gauges and my family haven't had a Christmas Tree for decades. Those few gauges are just a few of my collection! I also have an inlet-manifold vacuum gauge an ammeter, and a couple of 60 mm diameter, Lucas 8-segment warning-light clusters, as used on...

    Engine overheating?

That is a VERY LARGE tachometer!!! It's my impression that VW Type 1 style air-cooled engines don't like being revved much past 5,000 rpm, unless they are balanced to small tolerances with a counter-weighted crankshaft. I figured that a 52 mm diameter VDO Cockpit style tachometer would have a...

    Techenders

That's only true for the model-years of 1968~79 VW Type 2s that were assembled in Australia, under the Australian Design Rules. Unless things have changed, replacement RHD configuration wiper-arms for these vehicles are difficult to source, even in Australia.

Fuel pump identification? How to strip?

That's the type of pump that was on the AD-Series, twin-port, VW 1600 Type 2 engine, of my family's 1973 model-year (manufactured in late-August or early-September 1972) VW 1600 Type 2 Westfalia Continental.

    What you towing

Here is the relevant page from the factory-issued owners handbook, which specifies maximum laden weights of 600 kg for an unbraked trailer and 800 kg for a braked trailer: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/8_72_bus.php https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/8_72_bus/33.jpg

how 2 - convert your stock washer air switch to electric

The factory-fitted window wiper & washer facilities on many vehicles, including the 1968~79 VW Type 2, has been wholly inadequate, so I sought to rectify this as best I could for both my vehicles, of which the other is a 1974 Triumph Toledo 1300 "HL Special".

    Unknown knob

Wasn't that information given in one of the two owner's-handbooks which normally accompany these vehicles. I still have both of mine for the 1973 VW Type 2, scans of which are posted in The Samba Literature Archive as follows: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/8_72_bus.php...

    Westy bed hinge springs

This is something I have never done on my family's 1973 VW "1600" Type 2 Westfalia Continental, which has been in my life since January 1975! To transform it from the bed configuration to bench-seat configuration, simply raise the front leading edge of the front plywood-based upholstered...

    What you towing

The absolute maximum legal towing weights depend upon whether one's trailer has over-run brakes or not, but bear in mind that it is also technically illegal to exceed the towing-vehicle manufacturer's specified maximum towing weights; which is 800 kg for a VW 1600 Type 2 towing a braked trailer...

how 2 - convert your stock washer air switch to electric

As previously mentioned, this is a topic which has been discussed on several VW forums. Here's one from The Samba: Forum Index > Bay Window Bus > Electric Windshield Washer Pump Installation FAQ https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=128956 Here is a more comprehensive topic about...

Parts Wanted Continental Roof Bed wanted

When I looked at the various commercially marketed kits, which employed a simple L-shaped bracket for attachment to the long wooden reinforcement-laths, I anticipated that the wood would split, which is why I warned people against this poor design feature. Whilst I might not be a structural...

Parts Wanted Continental Roof Bed wanted

I wondered what had become of you "Lamoufle" since you contacted me a few years ago via The Samba" forum about the retro-fitment of gas-strut assistance for the Westfalia elevating-roof. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=294831...

Parts Wanted Continental Roof Bed wanted

The early-model, 1973 model-year onward, Westfalia Continentals, with front-hinged elevating-roof & rear-mounted roof-rack, were built on the Type 23-517 Kombi model, with purpose-designed roof-aperture for the elevating-roof rather than the sun-roof aperture models that were used for earlier...

Where could I get one of these from?

If the metal strap-bridge were fitted the other way up, the elevating-roof bed-base might not sit down properly on its supports!?!

Where could I get one of these from?

This picture from the aforementioned thread on The Samba's "bay-window" bus forum, looks like the original factory-fitted set-up on my 1973 VW "1600" Type 2 Westfalia Continental. Whilst they are available from Just Kampers, I would probably be wise to get three new ones, to replace the 51½...

    Heat Exchangers

ALL steps should be taken to avoid shearing off cylinder-head exhaust-port studs that secure the exhaust heat-exchangers and/or exhaust-silencer or after-market 4-into-1 exhaust manifold! Trying to remove broken screw-studs from an aluminium-alloy cylinder-head, using an "eaziout"...

    Which oil

I haven't been to any shows since circa 1999 or 2000 and am not likely to be attending any, any time soon!

Where could I get one of these from?

That looks like the bridge under which the hook on the front-cab's passenger seat engages.
