Here we go... Yellow 71 Cali import

If you haven't seen my into thread, my first journey was no joke, 225 miles from London to Lancashire... I cruised at a steady 58, no real dramas until 7 miles down the road where I stopped for fuel and couldn't restart! The problem proved to be a faulty voltage regulator, dragging the battery...

Here we go... Yellow 71 Cali import

Hi all, I've had my bus a month or so now and been reading a fair few threads on here. I'm gonna start a thread to show my progress and hopefully to get advice from the veterans.... My bus is a 71 Tin top originally from California. It came with a bit of history and is overall solid especially...

    Hello from a new owner

Yeah, I've been to see James, seems a good guy, I'll probably use him for jobs I don't fancy. Gonna try to do most things myself but there are definitely things I won't be taking on!

    Hello from a new owner

Remarkably similar.... I drove from London to Chorley. The petrol station I got stuck in was at Wrightington, just round the corner from you! Are there any local specialists you've found useful?... I used to have a beetle and got the engine replaced by a guy in Croston, Sean he was called, on...

    Hello from a new owner

Cheers ... This was a voltage regulator issue. With the lights on the charging voltage was 11.8V. Fixed with a new regulator, I'm an electrician by trade so electrical issues are the ones I can manage, the rest is a learning curve!

    Sold Westy interior

Just got a van and have some nice plans for the interior. Mostly to make it comfy and safe for the kids so I need a full width seat at the rear for proper seatbelts. Therefore my westy interior is for sale. Just what you see in the photos, rock and roll bed, cabinet and overhead storage. I don't...

    Hello from a new owner

Ha I guess so....The bus failed to start after a fuel stop 7 miles from home... So close yet so far! Much more chilled doing some closer to home journeys now though! Especially now I've sorted the battery charging.

    Hello from a new owner

Hello everyone... A couple of weeks ago I took the plunge into ownership after my wanted ad got a good response. Here is the bus..... '71 Cali import. It's got a few nice features some from factory, some additions. A 220 mile journey home wasn't the ideal way to get to know the bus but we...

Cheers for the tip about rubber hoses et ... Hadn't thought of that but like you say at least that's a known fix. There are some nice looking vans for sale round about the place at the moment.

Ha, I won't be put off easy but words of caution are welcome! I'm in Lancashire, willing to travel for the right van but obviously it's hard/expensive to view anything far away

Cheers all, I have actually dodged one van with a bad gutter section! I'm currently pondering over a solid South African panel van import. It's very solid underneath and pretty good bodywork wise but needs new seals all round and a complete interior. I'm thinking it's a more predictable project...

Nice one I'll do that... I've seen a couple on there that look good. I'm considering one or two that need welding on the underside. I know it's not going to be cheap but can you realistically some more than a couple of grand on the chassis welding? Unfortunately I can do electrics but not welding

Cheers... I'm having trouble signing up to the late bay forum... I've requested a confirmation email many times but it won't come though. Tried to contact them via the link on the web page but no joy... I've got my eye on the classified pages tho. Any recommendations for Facebook pages? I'm on...

Vehicle Wanted Wanted - Honest runner £9k to £12k

Hi all After a few years away from classic VW ownership I'm looking to get back into it with a van to enjoy with the family. An early bay would be the preference but would consider any bay window in case anyone has anything suitable. A tin top would be great, I'm not keen on welding but I'm...
