    Carb setting on 1600 SP

Sound advice! I had similar running problems when I rebuilt the Solex on my '67 bug - the idle control jet solenoid was faulty as it turned out; I replaced it and the carb idled and ran like a dream (you deffo need to set the cable up properly first, though). Let us know how you get on... ;)

How to find out which distributor we have? (bus won't start)

The distributor model numbers should be stamped on the outside (metal part) of the distributor body - the lettering is fairly small so a bright torch and keen eye are sometimes needed. Once you've found the number you can look it up here: http://www.oldvolkshome.com/ovhignbo.htm and more info...

    31 pct carb

Your 1600TP should have had a 34 carb anyway - it should run much better without any flat spots (especially with a stock vacuum advance dizzy). ;)

    EB enamel badge run

Can I just confirm - we're talking about a badge based on this one in the original post?: All that needs to be done is change "911S" for "Bay" and amend the years on the badge? ;)

    which stock carb ?

I'd be tempted to rebuild an old one rather than go for a new carb - all the new ones (Bocar, Empi) I've seen have been rubbish! Get an old one, strip and clean it well, put new spindle bushes in, rebuild with new gaskets etc - perfect!! ;)

    £25 iTunes gift card/voucher for sale - £22 posted!!!

I won this iTunes voucher at work :D but I've got an Android phone now and will be selling my iPod soon so this is redundant  . Still has the security 'scratch-off' panel intact of course!! Will be posted via 1st Class recorded (included in £22 price) - I was going to stick it on eBay...

    Solex 30 pict 1

Hi Andy, I've taken a look at the carb - the main jet is a 0.0125 (compared to your 0.02?) but the carb was originally fitted to a SP1300 so this could be the reason - the main jet carrier is fine if you want to give it a try. The carb has seen better days and I can't vouch for the spindles etc...

My wifes' bug runs the same carb and I'm pretty sure there's a spare at home. If you can wait til later I'll take a look for you... ;)

    Brake Calipers, Missing Parts?

I'd be very wary of rebuilding your calipers without the plates! I rebuilt mine last year and it appears that the plates have a pressing that locates on the piston - this stops the piston from rotating as it moves in and out. I'm not an engineer but I can't see that VW would have put it in...
