Who got the most Splitty presents?

I didn't get any splitty stuff this year (I think my constant moaning about splitty merchandise has finally struck home) - but thanks to a very detailed christmas list I did get an Empi gearshifter and Bentley Manual!! ;)

NOS VW bay window cab door side mirrors

    You're right - how does £28.00 sound? ;)

so will we be moving next year?

Hi Johhny, I assume this is going to cost (you) more dough? Did the voluntary contributions idea get off the ground? If so, count me in... ;)

Hi Pete, Can you tell me what size the steering wheel is please? Also, would you be able to post it? Cheers Juss ;)

This is how to sell a car on ebay

Very funny! My best man used to have a car like that - the brake 'pedal' was just a hydraulic button and the brakes were amazing! ;)

Anyone ever used the Jon Muir method to decoke their engine?

Thanks for the replies guys - I'll avoid the deisel and water options (I'd ruled out the water anyway) and try the redex. The car is only ever used on slow short runs (45mph max and 5-10 miles) and seems to be very sooty even though the carb has been refurbed and doesn't appear to be running...

Anyone ever used the Jon Muir method to decoke their engine?

I need to decoke the engine in the bug and wondered if anyone has ever used the 'pour a quart of diesel down the carb' method as outlined in Jon Muirs book 'Keeping Your VW Alive'? The idea is that you get the engine fully warmed up and then slowly pour the diesel down the carb (keeping the...

    Cigar-lighter adaptor/extender

I agree - if the kids are going to be in the back it makes sense to wire up some sockets for them to use back there. ;)

    Google Chrome App Store

I'm an avid Firefox fan and din't get on with Chrome at all - why use a 'faster' browser and then slow it down with loads of plugins? ;)

    its doing my head in

Have you checked the vacuum advance on your dizzy? Take the pipe off the carb, take the dizzy cap off and suck on the pipe to see if the plate in the dizzy moves (sorry if you already know how to do this) - this could be causing your hesitation. ;)

    My daily driver

Does this count?  I've asked my boss if I can put some flames down the side but he's not keen! ;)

    Torsion arm seals

As long as your seals have a healthy coating of grease on them there won't be any harm in compressing them a little to line everything up - as you said, they're the original seals and everything fitted fine before! ;)

    Torsion arm seals

I found this with mine when I put it back together - I assume you've already nipped-up the centre grub screws? I found that it was the grease in the end of the torsion arms that was stopping it slipping home - I just gave it some gentle action with a rubber mallet and it all lined up fine in the...

    Socket and Spanner sets

I agree - my main toolkit is Halfrauds Professional but I pick up Snap-On when I can. The Halfords stuff is good quality and comfortable to use - it seems pretty robust too and most of it carries a lifetime guarantee. ;)
