    Monty the Red Campervan

I had thought out a strategy for just me doing it by using an allen key taped to the bolt and tightening it from the nut in the engine bay, but it was just easier with some help, even if I did have to buy her an extra long spanner :)

    Monty the Red Campervan

New starter motor. Powerlite RAC525 which has a self supporting drive pinion. There was sale on at JustKampers so I bought it from them. not bad for £216. It's all in now and working. There had been a bolt used on the lower fitting but I added a stud with a 15mm nut. I used an allen...

    Starter Motor

Thanks for all the replies. I bought a Powerlite RAC 525 hi torque starter from Just Kampers. It has a self supporting drive pinion so no need for a new bushing. I may still get the old one refurbed but decided in the end to try a completely new starter. It is almost a straight swap, the...

    Northern Spain

I just looked on the Brittany ferries site and prices for next July (2024) are cheaper than what I paid for September last year. I thought July would be the most expensive month so I was surprised by the cost. You are right about the return fare though around £1000 for two plus campervan...

    Door &window seals

The best seals are the Vewib brand. Made in Germany. I bought one from Alan Schofileds a couple of years ago and its been ok. It's a pity that there is such a big price difference and I don't know about the cheaper seals, although the reviews look good on the JK site.

    Northern Spain

We went to Spain last year. Got the ferry to Santander and stayed here for a couple of days at a campsite. Then we made our way east and back up through France getting the return ferry at St Malo. We stayed for two nights at each of the seven campsites, along the way.

    Don't see many of these...

Apparently the young couple who drove it away were wearing headphones or perhaps they were ear defenders! 🤣

    Starter Motor

thanks for the reply. I did that on the bench, and it did not spin although the drive pinion did shoot out, to engage with the fly wheel. but as said above, it may not spin on the bench because the shaft is not being supported as it would be when fitted.

    I’m scared

I have got a habit after filling up with petrol, of looking in the cab door mirrors to check the air intakes for smoke coming out 😅 After five mins though I usually chill out !

    Don't see many of these...

Saw another one of these light trucks on Mull. It’s the second one I’ve seen this year. It’s a Russian built UAZ four wheel drive. This one has a German registration.

    Starter Motor

Well I got the starter motor out this morning. The hardest bit is undoing the nut in the engine bay behind the fan shroud. I don't know how I got my arms in there! The other end is the D shaped bolt head, so it is not too bad once the nut is cracked. I got a bit of a surprise when I had got...

    Other activities ?

I like any music really, but especially classical and folk. I suppose my main interest out of VW's is hill walking which I like to do as often as I can. I am also a bit of a film fanatic and enjoy re-watching classic movies as well as new ones.

    Monty the Red Campervan

Nice, it’s about 1100 miles from Calais so shouldn’t be too difficult in a bay!

    Monty the Red Campervan

The last day we loaded the campervan and I turned the ignition - nothing! The starter motor has apparently died well we made it home with one stop for fuel. Fortunately I had three helpers to push start the van. Had no warning in the week at all, so will be looking at this this week. Also as...
